Oceanside Auto Appraisers Sponsor

It’s nice to have a few sponsors to help with our expenses. Special thanks to Dave Sampson at Oceanside Auto Appraisers.

Dave is an automotive expert and aficionado, having owned and maintained close to four dozen of his own vehicles. The experience he’s gained from this, as well as from numerous “body off frame” restorations, makes him extremely familiar and qualified to handle all sorts of auto appraisals.

You can rest assured that Dave’s knowledge of all aspects of automotive work will result in a more accurate valuation for your car. His experience in dealing with engine rebuilds/swaps, bodywork, frame rebuilding, electrical, interior, driveline theory, and performance modification work means that he is able to reflect even the most minor details into the end appraisal.

Be sure to reach out to Dave for all you appraisal needs.

Passing of Rick Dykstra

I am extremely broken hearted to learn the news that we have lost another member of our car community. I was notified this morning that dear friend Rick Dykstra passed away on Thursday afternoon January 8th, 2026. Rick was a true blue car guy and a friend to many. I have so many memories of Rick. He used to visit me at my office at Budget from time to time and bring me car magazines. He was a regular at our Sears and KMS car cruises as well. I use to always ask him what 8-track he had in his deck whenever he brought his 1969 Camaro 307 to shows and cruises. This one has really hit me hard. I extend my sincere condolences to Rick's wife, kids and family - RIP Rick and thank you for being a friend ♥♥

Passing of Ken Sacht

Well I just received some sad news. Bill Leong, owner of Performance Products Courtenay just messaged me to let me know friend Ken Sacht passed away at 4:30am Saturday, January 3 2026. I have known Ken since 1972 when went to grade 7 together. Of course, like me, Ken was a diehard car fan all his life. I am really going to miss Ken as I always enjoyed seeing him at all the car shows we were at together. He had a gruff exterior but was a teddy bear at heart! I extend my sincere condolences to Leiana, Ken's family and his huge circle of friends! RIP buddy, you will be sorely missed.

I was very upset to learn of the passing of Gary Schley yesterday after a courageous battle with cancer. Gary was a car guy through and through. He was well known within the car community. He was a fixture at our weekly Sears and KMS car meets. He will be sorely missed. I extend my sincerest condolences to Gary's wife Laurie and family. RIP Gary.

Vancouver Island Ripple Effect TOONIE Challenge

Ripple Effects for Health & Wellness is looking for a few LOUD and PROUD hot rods for a fund raising initiative on JUNE 12.

I created Ripple Effects for Health & Wellness — a community-driven non-profit dedicated to helping individuals and families facing cancer, chronic illness, and overwhelming health struggles. We provide emotional support, financial relief, and educational resources about whole food and wellness. Our mission is simple: No one should face this journey alone.

My 13-year-old grandson, Landon and I are kicking off a major ISLAND WIDE fundraising initiative on June the 12th at 2:30 pm at Cedar Community Secondary School — a movement that starts with just a TOONIE and a heart willing to help. We are calling it the Vancouver Island Ripple Effect TOONIE Challenge, and our hope is that every small act of kindness RIPPLES into something bigger.

We would be honored if you could support this mission. We would love it if a few car guys could show up in their hot rods loud and proud, for our first - ever Ripple Effects Toonie Challenge. We're inviting you to ride through with a few of your finest loudest hot rods as part of our school parade, showing your support and community spirit. If you're able, we'd love for you to drop a Toonie in our donation jar - and even better, put out a challenge to all of the other car clubs on Vancouver Island, or anyone else to join the ripple and keep it growing! — whether that’s through a donation, spreading the word, or partnering with us in any way that feels right to you. Together, we can ride this wave of hope across Vancouver Island and beyond.

Thank you for considering joining our Ripple Fundraiser.

If you are interested in participating with your Hot Rod, please send an email to ripple.effects.society@gmail.com

With warmth and gratitude,

Lila Perry

KMS Tools Meet

UPDATE - Re: Nanaimo Wednesday Night Car meet - NEW LOCATION!

I am pleased to announce that our car meet that was formerly held at Sears will now be held at KMS Tools. We have the blessing of all the tenants in the plaza but we have been asked to adhere to certain conditions:

We are not to arrive earlier than 5:30 pm - please NO EARLY BIRDS! Also, we have been asked to start parking at the north end of the parking lot and work our way towards the entrance.

As the tenants of the plaza are doing us a huge favor, I implore everyone to abide by these requests. And as usual, please respect the property - no burnouts, no stunting, no drifting, no speeding and no excessive noise. Such activity will not be tolerated!!!

A HUGE Thank you to Steve Langford who has graciously coordinated the new venue for our weekly car meet. 🙂
